54 | According to Douglas Schaller, the Schaller Family was an important family in Munich - ownded a large department store and was a well extended family. 56 | According to Mark Moorstein, Fanny might have been an illegitimate child of a Grabosky (possibly Benjamin). Therefore she might have been a cousin or half-sister of the other children of Benjamin and Sarah. There is also speculation that her son Richard was really the son of Fanny and Jacob Grabosky (son of Benjamin and Sarah). If this is the case, Richard would have been concieved during the first year of Fanny's marriage to Simon Goldberg. While it seems far fetched to believe that she would have concieved a child with her cousin or half-brother right after she married Simon, and while they all lived in the same house, I guess anyting is possible. She is listed as a daughter of Sarah in the 1920 census, but if she was really a niece or half-daughter, they might have preferred to keep those facts from the census takers. Without further evidence, such as a death certificate or naturalization papers that list the parents, it's impossible to know. | Grabosky, Fanny (I741)

63 | As I remember, his father [Mottl] was a worker at some sort of a factory. He organized a worker's theater and always played some role there - mainly as a comediant - everyone laughed. Once all the workers complained at something ad Mottle appeared on the scene as their boss who explained why they really had to live as they did. Everyone laughed but the boss complained to the secret police and Mottl was arrested. They've never seen him again and didn't know what happened to him. When Khrushchev criticized Stalin and released a few million people from the GULag, Mottle didn't return. They might have inquired - the usual answer would have been that he died or was executed. But, because they were the family of the "enemy of the people", they were afraid to ask because they hid that fact from the authorities. They - discreetly - asked other people. After the war when so many Jews were murdered by the Nazis and their Ukrainian willing helpers. If Mottl survived, he would be looking after his family (probably assuming all of them remained in Ukraine under the occupation and were murdered.) Or maybe he married someone else - but then he would let them know and would have helped his son (I do not remember if he had a sister - probably yes). Lazar (Eliezer - his wife called him "Lazik") grew without his father. | Gluskin, Motia (I76)
